DESCRIPTION: J. May, London, verge fusee pocket watch, key wind and set, gilt plate movement with Continental style balance bridge and square baluster pillars in a sterling silver, open face pair case with Roman and Arabic numeral silver champleve dial with arcaded chapter ring and decorative, sunken center signed "May" above Helios and his chariot, fancy gilt hands, serial #1077, 52mm, case later, with London hallmark and date letter for 1785.
CONDITION: CASE: Minor dents; Minor scratches; Outer case with repair to back; Pendant reattached to inner case; Bow worn; Precious metal content marked; This case appears to have been made for this watch in 1785 to replace an earlier, worn out case. DIAL: Minor scratches; Infill missing, hour numerals with more recent blacking. HANDS: Replaced. MOVEMENT PLATES: Minor scratches on plate; Steel with minor oxide; Bottom plate with spot of verdigris. MOVEMENT FUNCTION: Running order (winds, sets and ticks).
